The 11th annual Trinidaddio Blues Fest, scheduled for Saturday, August 29,
will be the first eventproduced
by a newly formed non profit corporation rather
than a function of the Trinidad-Las Animas
Chamber of Commerce and other local non-profit organizations.
The board of directors of the new corporation, headed by
Trinidad real estate appraiser Jerry
Campbell and including many of the Fest’s original founders,
has submitted its 1023 form to the Internal
Revenue Service, and is anticipating rapid approval for 501(c)
3 nonprofit status. The corporation is called,
not surprisingly, the Trinidaddio Blues Fest.
”The Chamber has done a great job with the Blues Fest
over the past three years,” says Campbell,
"and we are very grateful for their hard work
and continued success at promoting the festival. But having
the Blues Fest stand on its own has long been a goal,” he said,
”and, finally, a group of us were able to put
all the parts in place to make that happen.
The Chamber has been very helpful in assisting us with this
process.”
Neil Sexton, formerly of Trinidad and now residing in Utica, NY,
will again be the master of
ceremonies for the event he originally founded in August of 1999
which has grown from an audience of
several hundred to last year’s estimated attendance of 5000 to 6000.
“To the audience, the all-day Fest will seem unchanged from previous years,”
says Campbell, “however, there will be some differences behind the scenes,
mostly in ways that we think will improve the
experience for both attendees and participants.”
Other members of the new nonprofit Board of Directors include
Sexton, Nancy Ellis, Denise Vitiello,
Ken Saydak, Jeff Fleshman, Howard Lackey, Lynell Mazza
Rusty Goodall, Jay Denny and C. Jerry Vitiello.

Headlining this year’s Blues Fest is the
Tommy Castro Band from San Jose, CA,
Ronnie Baker Brooks of Chicago and
the Tad Robinson of Chicago, featuring Alex Schultz.
The music in Central Park will begin at noon
with performances by
Trinidad’s Jacquie Gipson, the Clique, also of Trinidad,
Ken Saydak of La Veta (formerly Chicago, IL),
Soul Kitchen featuring Hillary Smith, Chris Dracup & Tommy
Elskes of Albuquerque, the venerable Los Albuquerque Blues Connection ,
and Dikki Du (AKA Troy Carrier) and
the Zydeco Krewe of Opelousas, LA.
Ticket prices remain the same as last year: $20 general admission,
$40 VIP, $5 for kids 6-12, and
children under 5 are free. The ticket price to the Friday night
Pre-Fest party at the Lucky Monkey has been
reduced this year to $25, but does not include dinner
(food vendors will be present).
